Video checklist

Checklist for making a video:

1. Purpose: What is your video trying to say? to create?
2. Audience: Who do you think (or want) this video is for?
3. Budget: What is your time budget for making this video?
Figure 50% of your time will be filming, and 50% production & promotion
4. Location: Where will this video be filmed? Do you have permission?
5. Who: Who will be in your video? Do you have permission?
6. Rights: Will you give this video away for free?
7. Scenes: Draft a list of scenes for your video.
8. Technical: Do you have the ability to take your video from the camera and get it into an editing system? Do you have an editing system? Do you have the ability to save a video file (“rendering” or publishing) from your editing system to a format you can distribute (offline or online distribution)?
9. Aging: Is your video going to look ‘aged’ in 1 month, 1 year, or 10 years? Can you make it more timeless now, or control where it is distributed to allow for updated versions to be relayed later?
10. Desire: Do you have the desire to see this project through to it’s completion? What will that “completion” be – when one person sees the video, or some other milestone?
